LONDON, June 13 — Take your beauty cues from Britain’s grand dame of couture — still stunning at 76, by reaching for graphic crayola-effect eyeliner, and get inspired by the hair-raising Insta-worthy looks from her latest catwalk show, during the London Fashion Week Men’s event.
High drama is never amiss at Vivienne Westwood’s widely followed fashion shows. Her runway events teem with messages, both subliminal and more often than not downright overt in illustration of the causes closest to the designer’s heart.
Prior to the show, Dame Vivienne joined models getting runway-ready with a stint in top makeup artist Val Garland’s director’s chair. The designer made a punky scraped-back beehive, and her signature graphic crayola-style eyeliner look like child’s play.
Nail artists perfected multi-coloured blue, green and red block colour manis with knuckles painted black, and hair stylists whipped models’ locks into hair-raising, flame-sculpted dos.
Bleached and pastel blue short cuts were also spotted on Westwood’s Spring 2018 catwalk.
Her SS18 collection was built around the #VW Pack of Cards theme, which ran through everything from the models’ pasty painted faces, reminiscent of Pierrot dolls, smudged red diamond and kohl-outlined heart-shaped, clown-like lips; to the 4 suits of cards-inspired men’s tailoring and loungewear, which carried heart, diamond, pointed spade and phallic club motifs.
Westwood invited guests to play with the ideas behind each suit: diamonds for the “Rot$ financial system,” hearts for “love, what’s good for people and towards free world economy,” clubs for war and spades for the “Giant Earth wreckers like Shell and Monsanto.”
