SINGAPORE, June 5 — Fans of “cool” Japanese products won’t have to travel too far to get their fix soon.
Japanese discount store chain Don Quijote announced today that it will be opening its first South-east Asian outlet in Singapore’s Orchard area. (Please don’t berate us about the mighty Singapore dollar. We know.)
Singapore’s Straits Times was the first to report the news today.
No other details were available at time of writing.
Don Quijote, which first opened in 1989, has over 160 locations throughout Japan as well as three stores in Hawaii.
Fondly known in Japan as “Donki”, it carries a wide range of products, from basic groceries to electronics to clothing, that it packs from ceiling to floor in a distinct merchandising strategy.
Unusually for Japan, opening hours for some branches run into the wee hours of the morning, with some remaining open 24 hours.
