SINGAPORE, June 23 — A malfunction in a line of Ikea’s safety gates has caused some children to fall down the stairs, with a few of the cases requiring medical attention.

This has prompted the Swedish furniture company to take action by recalling the products globally.

“Ikea urges customers who have a Patrull, Patrull Fast or Patrull Klamma safety gate to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any Ikea store for a full refund,” Ikea said in a news release today.

Any safety gate extension unit of the Patrull model may also be returned for a full refund.

A third-party investigation found that the locking mechanism on the safety gate is not reliable, posing a risk for young children.

“We cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we recall all Patrull safety gates,” said Maria Thorn, acting business area manager at Children’s Ikea.

A receipt is not required for the refunds. — TODAY
