GOLD COAST, April 13 — Malaysia’s lawn bowls squad overcame South Africa 15-14 in the women’s pairs event to claim the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 today.
In the tournament final held at Broadbeach Bowls Club here, Siti Zalina Ahmad and Emma Firyana Saroji faltered in the first three ends trailing 7-0 behind Nicolene Neal and Colleen Piketh.
The pair continued to lag 3-12 until after 10 ends when undeterred, they began collecting point after point, narrowing the gap 12-13 after 16 ends before wrapping up the game 15-14.
The gold medal is the first for Malaysia in the Commonwealth Games lawn bowls pairs event. It is also the fourth for the country’s contingent and much awaited by the squad. ― Bernama
