MAUI, May 8 — A bubbling lava lake in Hawaii has been overflowing for over a week now, for the first time in over a century, drawing thousands of spectators eager for a closer at the geological phenomenon.

Over the past week, the volatile lava lake on the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island, has spilled over its sides into the Halmaumau.

The lava lake sits in a crater within a crater.
