SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 15 — Less than one year after the Fitbit Force was famously recalled due to customer complaints of skin irritations, the new Fitbit Charge seems at risk to meet a similar fate.

Yahoo Tech reviewer Alyssa Bereznak reported scratching her wrist for a week as a result of wearing the device which culminated in a mild, but noticeable rash.

The red rash disappeared upon removal of the device, says Bereznak, but returned if she put it back on.

“Fitbit takes every complaint very seriously,” says Fitbit CEO and co-founder James Park in response to Bereznak, “And we have also been in contact with the handful of Charge users (out of the tens of thousands sold) who have reported redness or skin irritation after wearing the product.”

According to Park all new Fitbit trackers have been subjected to the same testing, however, Bereznak says an anonymous Fitbit user sent her a list of Charge users’ woes documented by photos of their rashes.

The Charge (US$129.95, RM454), the Charge HR (US$149.95, RM524) and the Surge (US$249.95, RM874) are made out of elastomer, according to the Fitbit website, and each product has a surgical-grade stainless steel clasp or buckle. — AFP-Relaxnews
