KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — After taking the plunge in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Welson Sim, aims to break the national and the Sea Games records at Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) from August 19 to 31.
The national swimmer from Sarawak who recently returned from training in New Zealand said the training stint down under has had a positive impact on him.
“I had the opportunity to improve my swimming technique and also learned about effective breathing,” he told Bernama when met after the Malaysia-MILO Schools Award 2016, here yesterday.
Welson, the bronze medalist in the 200m freestyle at 2015 Singapore Sea Games has set a three gold medals target at KL2017.
“I am confident of winning the gold medals in the the 200m freestyle, the 400m freestyle and the 1500m freestyle.”
He expects stiff competition to come from Joseph Schooling of Singapore in the 200m freestyle. — Bernama
