KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has never been bias or used racial sentiments when selecting players said its acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abd Majid.

Al-Amin said BAM used a transparent process when selecting players for the backup squad and all aspiring players go through the same process through the coaching division of the BAM.

“Selections are also not done by any individual,” he told Bernama at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara, here today when commenting on claims of bias by a young player, Muhammad Iqram Maula Azman, who was not selected for the National back up squad.

His father Datuk Azman Abdullah also expressed disappointment with BAM, especially Technical Director Morten Frost Hansen, whom he claimed did not give his son Muhammad Iqram a chance to prove his capability.

Al-Amin said: “We want to clarify that Datuk Azman’s claim is baseless...

Our system of selection is very transparent...From 40 players only 19 were selected.

“A committee in the BAM has set the criteria for selection. The process all players undergo is the same... We do not victimise any player as claimed by the father,” he said.

Al-Amin stressed that the BAM has never used racial sentiments in the selection process. — Bernama
