PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 — More than 300 M-League tickets involving Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) were reported “missing”, raising questions about the security of courier services in the country and the lengths individuals will take to make a quick buck from the football fever.
Mailsport learnt 308 tickets for six matches involving the Southern Tigers in both the Super League and Malaysia Cup went missing. The star-studded Johor side have been enjoying massive attendances at their home matches throughout the season.
The tickets were couriered from Kuala Lumpur to Larkin via Pos Laju.
However, the final straw for Johor FA was when 150 tickets of the much-anticipated Malaysia Cup quarterfinal first leg clash between JDT and Kelantan at Larkin Stadium on September 28 were conspicuously missing.
Apparently Johor FA officials found the parcels opened and lodged a police report on September 26.
Pos Laju returned all the “missing” tickets the following day and the state FA agreed to retract the police report.
Johor FA secretary Fahmy Yahya said: “We do not intend to make a big deal out of this. We have spoken to the respective parties involved and as far as we’re concerned, the matter has been settled.”
The FA of Malaysia (FAM), however, are not treating the matter lightly.
FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin found it strange the missing tickets only involved Johor Darul Takzim’s home matches but said measures will be taken to curb any form of abuse.
“Such a thing has never happened in the past. The missing tickets were only for Johor Darul Takzim matches,” Hamidin said.
“We will make sure our people will be in Larkin to pass the tickets to Johor FA. We do not want to play the blame game but we do not want to see a repeat of such an incident in future.”
