LOS ANGELES, May 17 — Tom Cruise sets the pace for the sixth Mission: Impossible movie in an explosive new trailer. The American actor returns to the role of Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, opening July 27 in US theatres.

Paramount Pictures has released an official trailer for Mission: Impossible — Fallout, opening in US theatres July 27. Cruise returns for this sixth instalment in the Mission: Impossible movie franchise, filmed mostly in Paris.

The 55-year-old actor returns to the role of Ethan Hunt, who must race against time after a mission goes wrong. Tom Cruise is joined on the cast by Henry Cavill (Superman), Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Wes Bentley and Frederick Schmidt also star.

Based on the TV show of the same name, the Mission: Impossible movies are one of Hollywood’s most lucrative franchises. The first film, released in 1996, grossed more than US$456 million (RM1.8 billion) worldwide. The 2011 movie, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, is the franchise’s biggest hit to date, grossing US$692 million worldwide. The most recent release, 2015’s Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, follows in second place with over US$682 million at the global box office.
