LOS ANGELES, June 23 — The sale of an engraved gold Cartier watch once owned by Jackie Kennedy made headlines when it sold for more than three times its projected auction price earlier this week.
Now, it’s set to be a topic of conversation all over again, as it has emerged that the new owner is none other than Kim Kardashian.
TMZ was the first to report the news.
Christie’s had expected the Tank watch to pull in US$120,000 (RM514,650), but it eventually sold for US$379,500 at auction in New York on Wednesday, after Kardashian placed the winning bid.
The timepiece was given to her by her brother-in-law, Prince Stanislaw “Stas” Radziwill, in February 1963 to commemorate a 50-mile hike in Palm Beach championed by former president John F. Kennedy in a drive to make Americans fitter.
The back of the timepiece is engraved: “Stas to Jackie, 23 Feb. 1963. 2.05am to 9.35pm” — the start and finish of what turned into a 19-hour, 30-minute hike.
TMZ said that Kardashian plans to wear the understated watch that Kennedy was often photographed wearing.
