LOS ANGELES, June 21 — It looks like Johnny Depp’s legal woes are far from over after emails of him allegedly mismanaging his finances were shared online.
Depp’s former management firm, The Management Group, shared emails between them and him discussing his financial situation as part of their ongoing legal battle where Depp is seeking more than US$28 million (RM120 million) over allegations of fraud and mismanagement.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the email exchange took place in December 2009 and it indicates that Depp was aware of the crippling state of his finances.
In the email, Depp’s business manager Joel Mandel urged the star to “take it easy” on his spending during Christmas and wanted to set up a meeting where they could figure out a financial plan.
Depp responded by saying: “I am doing my very best on holiday spending, but there is only so much I can do, as I need to give my kiddies and families as good a Christmas as possible, obviously within reason.”
Depp spoke about his upcoming movies next adding: “Know that I will be starting THE TOURIST on our about the 15th of February, which will be 20 mil. I will then go, virtually, straight into PIRATES 4 for 35 mil, and then in turn to DARK SHADOWS for another 20 mil.
“I hope that by the amount that will be coming in from work in the coming year and also from back end proceeds, will put everything straight.”
Depp also went on to suggest that he could sell some of his belongings if it would help with the financial situation.
“What else can I do? You want me to sell some art??? you want me to sell something else??? sure ... what??? ...
“I got bikes, cars, property, books, paintings, and some semblance of a soul left. Where would you like me to start???,” the actor wrote.
Depp filed his lawsuit against The Management Group in January accusing them of fraud and financial negligence. The firm counter-sued by claiming Depp is a “habitual liar” and that he did not listen to their advice.
