SEOUL, April 8 — With over 2.1 billion views on Chinese video site Qiyi alone, it’s no surprise that many are keen to find ways to extend Descendants of the Sun’s successful run.
Now, various entertainment sites are reporting that the hugely successful K-drama starring Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo may be turned into a film.
Yesterday, a representative of NEW, the production company behind Descendants of the Sun, told MBN Star, “We have been receiving a lot of questions regarding remakes and optional publication rights, so it is true that we have been negotiating with several companies.”
When pressed further to comment on a Chinese report that stated the drama would be made into a movie, the representative said, “We’re keeping all options open. It could be a movie; it could be a drama.”
But the real question is: If the movie is greenlit, will we see Captain Yoo Si-jin woo Kang Mo-yeon all over again? Or will the film version tell another story altogether and as such, have to try and recapture the magic of the series?
