SINGAPORE, Feb 3 — Yes, the Year of the Monkey is right around the corner and we’ve been hearing a whole load of Chinese New Year songs being played everywhere we go.
But just which is the most popular one?
Streaming service today Spotify revealed the top 10 songs that appeared most frequently across Chinese New Year playlists all over the world and it might surprise some that the ever-ubiquitous Gong Xi Gong Xi isn’t the No 1 song.
That honour goes to The Return of Spring or Da Di Hui Chun. The most popular songs found in Chinese New Year playlists worldwide are in order as follows:
1. Da Di Hui Chun [大地回春]
2. Gong Xi Gong Xi [恭喜恭喜]
3. Cai Shen Dao [財神到]
4. Ying Chun Hua [迎春花]
5. He Xin Nian [賀新年]
6. Gong Xi Fa Cai [恭喜發財]
7. Chun Tian Lai Le [春天來了]
8. Zhu Fu Ni [祝福你]
9. Xiao Bai Nian [小拜年]
10. Xin Nian Xi Yang Yang [新年喜洋洋]
Meanwhile, Spotify’s in-house Asian music experts also launched an exclusive curated playlist to usher in Chinese New Year, featuring artistes born in the Year of the Monkey.
Creatives born in this zodiac year are said to be clever, talented and sometimes cheeky and the playlist features local artistes such as ShiGGa Shay and Ming Bridges, as well as international chart-toppers Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Sam Smith.
“Great music always goes hand in hand with celebrations,” said Sunita Kaur, managing director, Spotify (Asia). “We’re looking forward to bringing you more of the hits you love through our carefully curated playlists that showcase the best of Asian and global favourites.” — TODAY
