CHICAGO, Jan 21 ― Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to Glenn Frey with a cover of the Eagles’ hit track Take It Easy during the Chicago stop of his The River tour.
Springsteen performed an acoustic version of the song, accompanied by Soozie Tyrell on violin. Fans joined in by raising their cell phones and lighters in the air for the touching tribute, which concluded with Springsteen simply saying, “Glenn Frey”.
Frey, the Eagles’ founding guitarist and singer, died on Monday after complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia.
His performances on Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling on the band’s debut album in 1972 helped rocket the Eagles to fame.
