NOVEMBER 12— The way some NGOs go about it, you would think that Jesus and the Devil are the same person.

Poor Jesus. I am pretty sure his intention was never to lead innocents to Hell. The Bible says so, at least.

Halloween has already been declared a forbidden celebration, so I am just waiting for Christmas to be declared illegal. I think it is just an insidious plot to lessen our public holidays.

I can picture it now: somewhere in the depths of a random government department a secret meeting is being held about national productivity or lack thereof.

As Christians in Malaysia tend to be the meek and mild sort, these civil servants think they can forestall any kind of rioting. These Christians, they think, will merely write protesting emails and then sulk silently on Christmas day while secretly listening to carols on their earphones.

Even I find it easier to make fun of Christians in this country as the most they’ll do is unfollow me on Twitter and decide quite adamantly they will not pray for my soul.

To be honest though, I am quite tired of the ridiculous, racist nonsense that takes the place of discourse these days.

Let’s just say the truth here; Jesus isn’t the problem. It’s really a bunch of people using Jesus as a bogeyman that annoys me.

Fear the evil Christians because with the power of Christmas, cookies and bacon, they will seduce you with the pleasures of the world. Such as rock concert-like church worship services and Christmas carols.

What we should really be afraid of its the blatant scaremongering and making Christians the scapegoat for our nation’s ills.

All I want for Christmas is for Isma and the like to leave Christians alone. Leave their books alone. Leave their prayer languages alone. At the very least, just be quiet and go sit in the corner with your eggnog. Or teh tarik.

Houston, we do have a problem and it is ignorance and fear. And just how much longer will they be used a tool to control a meek populace?

The sad and succinct answer is: for as long as it takes, for as long as it works.
