KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 ― Bursa Malaysia stayed in the positive territory mid-morning, with buying support seen in selected heavyweight stocks, prompted by the performance of Asian peers which gained from Wall Street which were lifted by solid quarterly earnings and a rebound in technology stocks.
At 11.02am, the key FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 5.88 points better to 1,857.41 from yesterday’s close of 1,852.27.
It opened 11.97 points higher at 1,864.24.
On the broader market, gainers led losers 279 to 236 while 332 counters were unchanged, 1,069 untraded and 78 others were suspended.
Volume stood at 663.26 million units valued at RM395.37 million.
Bursa Malaysia saw thin volume trading with the barometer index supported by buying in selected heavyweights.
Among the bluechips, Maybank added two sen to RM10.70, Public Bank rose 16 sen to RM23.88, Tenaga bagged six sen to RM15.90, Petronas Chemicals gained seven sen to RM8.48 while CIMB was flat at RM7.20.
For actives, EA Holdings-Warrants added one sen to 1.5 sen, Borneo Oil and EA holdings eased half-a-sen each to 7.5 sen and 3.5 sen, respectively, while Sapura Energy shed one sen to 66.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index was 28.77 points higher at 12,927.93, the FBMT 100 Index rose 29.82 points to 12,746.59 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 19.53 points to 13,059.64.
The FBM 70 improved 6.66 points to 15,259.01 and the FBM Ace advanced 39.28 points to 5,314.99.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Index added 11.79 points to 3,212.43, the Plantation Index gained 1.43 points to 7,966.65 and the Finance Index increased 36.58 points to 18,258.06. ― Bernama
