KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — Bursa Malaysia turned lower at mid morning today, in line with most regional bourses, as selling activity emerged in selected heavyweights and industrial product counters, dealers said.
At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,8240.79, down 3.84 points from yesterday's close of 1,828.63.It opened 2.61 points higher at 1,831.24.
Overall market breadth was weaker as losers led gainers 655 to 172, while 359 counters were unchanged, 646 untraded and 32 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 2.30 billion shares worth RM893.14 million.
The FBM Emas Index was 49.38 points lower at 13,142.35, the FBMT 100 Index declined 39.37 points to 12,809 and the FBM 70 dropped 91.90 points to 16,328.39.
The FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 52.30 points to 13,566.21 and the FBM Ace lost 152.39 points to 6,653.79.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index declined 56.69 points to 17,189.51, the Industrial Index dipped 35.40 points to 3,302.95 and the Plantation Index slid 15.97 points to 8,059.26.
Among heavyweights, Maybank shed two sen to RM9.86, Public Bank rose two sen to RM20.90 while TNB and Petronas Chemicals were flat at RM15.82 and RM8.17 respectively.
Of the actives, Sumatec and NETX eased half-a-sen each to 9.5 sen and 4.5 sen, UMW O&G slipped three sent to 35.5 sen and Sapura Energy eased four sen to 77 sen. — Bernama
