KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today, pressured by the weaker performance of Bursa Malaysia.
At 6pm, it was quoted at 4.1210/1260 against the greenback from yesterday’s 4.1050/0100.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 15.79 points to close at 1,661.39 today.
A dealer said the foreign funds’ fall on the local bourse curbed demand for the ringgit.
Despite the lower close against the greenback, another dealer said the local note and other Asian currencies were higher, supported by uncertainty on the timing of the US Federal Reserve’s rate-tightening cycle.
The ringgit was traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies.
It fell against the euro to 4.6246/6318 from 4.6066/6135 today.
The ringgit rose versus the yen to 4.0103/0164 from 4.0261/0322 yesterday, improved against the British pound to 5.4430/4521 from yesterday’s 5.4449/4527 and strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 3.0173/0218 from 3.0182/0223 yesterday. — Bernama
