NANNING (China), Sept 10 — Export of goods will enter China 100 per cent tax-free come 2018, says Minister of International Trade and Industry II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.
He said the abolishment of the non-tariff barrier would liberalise the movement of goods from Malaysia to the republic.
We have signed the China-Asean Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) where Malaysian goods now enter this country 96 per cent tax free.. and we will finally reach zero-rated were all goods can come into the country without being taxed.
“This will bring us towards the direction of e-commerce. When our products are not taced, they can be purchased them directly via the Internet,” he told reporters after the opening of the Malaysian Pavilion at the 13th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) here today.
Ong said e-commerce was the way moving forward for Malaysian companies, not only to facilitate trading with China but with other countries that Malaysia was currently trading with.
He mentioned the recent free trade agreement signed between Malaysia and Turkey which boosted the export of Malaysian products into Turkey by 123 per cent.
“Via e-commerce, this number will increase further,” he said, adding that out of the 205 companies participating at the four-day CAEXPO this year, 40 per cent of them also operated their businesses online.
Some 205 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) would showcase their products and services at the 13th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO), which will kick off tomorrow.
CAEXPO is co-sponsored by China and all 10 Asean countries, aimed at promoting cooperation and common development of China and Asean.
The key focus of this year’s CAEXPO participation is to leverage on CAFTA, the promotion of Malaysia’s exports, attracting investment from China, pushing Malaysia’s tourism industry and to brand Malaysia as a dynamic nation with rich natural resources, strong economic fundamentals and pro-business policies. — Bernama
