KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia were lower at mid-morning today, due to losses in selected heavyweights.

At 11.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,693.42, down 0.9 of-a-point against yesterday’s close of 1,694.32 points.

It opened 1.33 points easier at 1,692.99 at 9am.

Losers outpaced gainers 322 to 281, while 351 counters were unchanged, 735 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.18 billion shares worth RM547.43 million.

Of the heavyweights, TNB and Public Bank were flat at RM14.80 and RM19.84, respectively, while Maybank and IHH eased a sen each to RM8 and RM6.68, respectively.

Among actives, AirAsia X rose 2.5 sen to 48.5 sen, while Borneo Oil and Vivocom were both half-a-sen better at 19.5 sen and 30 sen respectively.

Leading the top losers list were industrial product stock United U-Li, down 85 sen to RM4.30, AS Sam Engineering fell 56 sen to RM6.94 and SLP Resources declined 29 sen to RM2.19.

For the top gainers, consumer stocks F&N was up 36 sen to RM24.86 and British American Tobacco increased 26 sen to RM50.36.

The FBM Emas Index declined 0.26 of-a-point to 11,894.27, the FBMT100 Index lost 0.02 of-a-point to 11,589.79 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 6.94 points lower at 12,541.98.

The FBM Ace bagged 34.86 points for 5,635.07 and the FBM 70 edged up 22.3 points to 13,681.33.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index was 1.83 points weaker at 14,540.02, the Industrial Index decreased 9.89 points to 3,184.95, and the Plantation Index improved 50.52 points to 7,788.39. — Bernama
