KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 ― Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today, with consumer stocks leading the top losers list.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,696.78, down 3.11 points, against yesterday's close of 1,699.89 points. It opened 4.32 points easier at 1,695.57 at 9 am.

Losers outpaced gainers 363 to 231, while 335 counters were unchanged, 751 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 849.26 million shares worth RM421.48 million.              

Leading the top losers list were British American Tobacco, down 42 sen to RM51.58, Oriental Holdings declining 29 sen to RM7.11 and Panasonic which fell 28 sen to RM37.72.

Among the top gainers, United Plantations rose 30 sen to RM27.30, Power Root increased 15 sen to RM2.15 and SP Setia added nine sen to RM3.28.

Of the heavyweights, TNB lost two sen to RM14.78, Maybank eased three sen to RM8.02, Public Bank was flat at RM19.80 and IHH shed a sen to RM6.67.

Among actives, Dagang Nexchange gained 1.5 sen to 24 sen, Iris added half-a-sen to 21.5 sen, while Xidelang and XOX were flat at four sen and 16 sen, respectively.

The FBM Emas Index declined 24.56 points to 11,906.05, the FBMT100 Index lost 23.93 points to 11,598.4 and the FBM Ace added 28.05 points to 5,614.27.

The FBM 70 edged down 37.77 points to 13,639.39 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 28.22 points lower at 12,564.33.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index was 34.81 points weaker at 14,542.48, the Industrial Index decreased 11.51 points to 3,205.96 and the Plantation Index fell 6.04 points to 7,731.41. ― Bernama
