KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — Bursa Malaysia remained in the red at mid-morning today in line with the sluggish regional markets.
At 11.02am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.82 points lower at 1,622.40, compared with Tuesday’s close of 1,629.22.
It had opened lower at 1,628.16.
Market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 524 to 171, with 233 counters unchanged, 823 untraded and 12 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 786.59 million shares worth RM495.33 million.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 gave up 2.15 per cent to 16,681.33, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng decreased 3.13 per cent to 19,020.55, and Singapore’s Straits Times was down 1.84 per cent to 2,589.98.
Among heavyweights, Maybank shed three sen to RM8.30, TNB eased two sen to RM12.88, Public Bank declined four sen to RM18.14 and Petronas Chemicals contracted 23 sen to RM6.96.
Among actives, Nexgram and Borneo Oil eased half-a-sen to six sen and 15.5 sen respectively, IFCA MSC reduced 1.5 sen to 80 sen while Istacom Group was unchanged at 29.5 sen.
Of the top losers, PPB fell 20 sen to RM15.64, Shangri-La was 19 sen lower at RM5.61, Kossan Rubber declined 16 sen to RM8.84 and Lay Hong reduced 14 sen to RM8.35.
Among the top gainers, Guinness Anchor accumulated 54 sen to RM13.62, British American Tobacco increased 46 sen to RM56.24, Huat Lai Resources added 24 sen to RM5.0 and Scientex was 18 sen higher at RM11.20.
On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index decreased 52.64 points to 11,364.96, the FBMT100 dropped 48.38 points to 11,046.89 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 63.60 points to 12,306.40.
The FBM 70 lost 63.33 points to 12,835.09, and the FBM Ace reduced 58.61 points to 6,126.43.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Index slid 6.49 points to 3,130.01, the Plantation Index declined 22.52 points to 7,496.77 and the Finance Index weakened 43.38 points to 13,639.58. — Bernama
