KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 ― The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) opened higher in tandem with the upbeat overnight performance on Wall Street.

The FBM KLCI opened at 1,661.20 and moved up to 1,673.10, up 17.10 points or 1.03 per cent, as at 9.25am.

Banking stocks were the leading movers with Maybank rising seven sen to RM8.37, Public Bank gained 20 sen to RM18.16 while Tenaga advanced 12 sen to RM13.16.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 384 to 128, while 770 counters were unchanged, 539 untraded and 19 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 582.97 million shares worth RM292.27 million.     

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index surged 113.29 points to 11,649.96, the FBMT100 Index advanced 106.49 points to 11,319.68 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 130.76 points to 12,558.58.

The FBM 70 garnered 87.73 points to 12,890.31 and the FBM Ace gained 83.56 points to 6,515.34.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index advanced 38.49 points to 3,309.12, the Finance Index surged 132.02 points to 14,190.28 while the Plantation Index climbed 34.16 points to 7,516.98.

Actively traded stocks this morning included iDimension, Instacom, Borneo Oil, Nexgram and RGB International. ― Bernama
