KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia were higher in early trade today, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight, dealers said.

At 9.03am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,717.02, up 3.77 points, after opening 3.76 points higher at 1,717.01.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 217 points to 17,141.75, the S&P 500 gained 29.62 points to 2,023.86 and the Nasdaq Composite added 87.25 points to 4,870.1.

On the scoreboards, the Finance Index rose 37.44 points to 14,698.1, the Industrial Index gained 2.09 points to 3,322.87 while the Plantation Index rose 31.66 points to 7,493.6.

The FBM Emas Index was 32.25 points higher at 11,813.35, the FBMT100 Index gained 31.98 points to 11,520.5, the FBM Ace increased 45.9 points to 6,075.91 while the FBM 70 advanced 60.18 points to 12,765.77.

In the broader market, gainers outpaced decliners 161 to 52 while 137 counters were unchanged, 1,457 untraded and 17 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 76.08 million shares worth RM28.6 million.

Among actives, XoX Bhd was 1.5 sen higher at 20.5 sen while RGB International and Frontken were both flat at 14 sen and 23 sen, respectively.

Heavyweights Maybank and TNB were both two sen higher at RM8.63 and RM12.80 respectively, while MAHB gained three sen to RM5.45. — Bernama
