KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Bursa Malaysia ended higher today with mild foreign buying interest in selected heavyweights, dealers said.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 1.28 points  to 1,711.14 after moving between 1,705.3 and 1,716.75 throughout the day.

A dealer said the positive trend in the local bourse was in contrast to the downtrend in other regional bourses.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank rose 11 sen to RM8.62, IHH Healthcare surged 13 sen to RM6.34, Axiata and Digi were flat at RM6.38 and RM5.75 respectively, while Petronas Gas decreased four sen to RM22.76.

Among actives, Frontken added 2.5 sen to 21.5 sen, Iris Corp perked 1.5 sen  to 26 sen, Xox Bhd went up one sen higher to 16 sen and Privasia Technology and  AirAsia improved 30 sen each to 29 sen and RM1.45, respectively. 

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing losers by 433 to 414, while 315 counters were unchanged, 628 untraded and 16 others were suspended.

Volume increased to 2.47 billion shares worth RM2.45 billion from 2.09 billion shares valued at RM2.2 billion yesterday.

Among top gainers were British American Tobacco (+RM1.22 to RM62.72), Nestle (+50 sen to RM73.60) and Success Transformer (+24 sen to RM1.61) while top losers were Aeon Credit Service (-24 sen to RM13.40), Genting (-24 sen to RM7.51) and Top Glove (-24 sen to RM8.05).

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 4.37 points to 11,770.74, FBM Ace was up 63.16 points to 5,961.83 and the FBMT100 Index was 5.72 points higher at 11,477.8.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 14.48 points to 11,770.74 and the FBM 70 declined 4.19 points to 12,706.52.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index increased 87.6 points to 14,585.23 and the Plantation Index was 6.75 points higher at 7,497.38. The Industrial Index eased 3.67 points higher to 3,319.43.

Main Market volume rose to 1.45 billion units worth RM2.25 billion from 1.17 billion units worth RM2.01 billion yesterday.

Turnover on the ACE Market increased to 638.87 million shares valued at RM137.74 million from 495.6 million shares valued at RM102.79 million yesterday.

Warrants eased to 372.91 million units worth RM63.11 million from 423.81 million units worth RM84.34 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 60.3 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (301.11 million), construction (70.63 million), trade and services (602.09 million), technology (43.42 million), infrastructure (35.08 million), SPAC (21.56 million), finance (96.99 million), hotel (949,200), properties (156.05 million), plantations (64.75 million), mining (34,100),  REITs (5.53 million) and closed/fund (25,000). — Bernama
