KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26— Bilateral relations between Malaysia and Kuwait are expected to be further strengthened, especially in the economic field.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador to Malaysia, Saad Abdullah Al Asousi said among the proactive steps to be taken is the setting up of a business council between both countries to further promote trade and investment.
“I hope the Malaysia-Kuwait Business Council to be set up in April can be accredited by the government of Kuwait and Malaysia,” he told Bernama at Kuwait’s 54th National Day and 24th Liberation Day celebration, here today.
Trade between Kuwait and Malaysia has been going strong, increasing to US$1.8 billion (RM6.48 billion) in 2014 from RM840 million in 2013.
Saad Abdullah hopes that Malaysia-Kuwait trade will continue to grow.
People to people connectivity has also been increasing with the number of tourists from both sides on the rise.
About 23,000 tourists from Kuwait visited Malaysia last year.
He hopes the positive bilateral relations of both countries will continue to be explored. — Bernama
