KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Bangi hopeful Syahredzan Johan said he has identified the constituency’s urgent problems associated with its large geographic size and dense population, saying he hopes to provide the solutions to them.

Speaking to Malay Mail, Syahredzan said these issues include first- and last-mile connectivity with public transportation, mental health, traffic jams, flooding, few job opportunities and lack of jobs with higher wages.

“It is a densely populated constituency, of course it’s not the biggest in terms of size, but it is densely populated,” he said, adding that it contained many different demographics based on the particular area one was looking at.

“There are now more than 300,000 voters in Bangi,” he added, saying that there were more than 600,000 people who live in the area according to official statistics.

He highlighted how Bangi has the potential to develop into an e-commerce hub, with a large community of online sellers concentrated in Bandar Baru Bangi.

“One of the things we want to do is to develop the potential of Bangi as a hub, to develop an ecosystem for entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses in Bangi so that they have the right support in the constituency so they can bring their businesses further,” he said.

Besides that, he has ideas for job opportunities for youth in the area: namely in the higher education sector.

“In terms of facilitating cooperation between industries and also higher education institutions in Bangi, in order to increase the job and business opportunities for young people.”

He spoke on how he hopes to facilitate cooperation between industries and higher education institutions in the area to increase job and business opportunities for young people, by matching these tertiary education institutions with industry expectations.

“[The cooperation] is already there but we want to further develop it in order to ensure that young people are given the opportunities,” he said.

Further, he hopes to open a legal clinic in the area and to launch programmes to advocate for better mental health and to provide counselling.

But he admitted that he would require cooperation from other stakeholders such as advocacy groups and other bodies for that to become reality.

“I think it’s a matter of continuous improvement and also a matter of giving someone like me the opportunity to serve the community,” he said.

Bangi will be an eight-cornered fight with three independent candidates as well as Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Hoh Hee Lee, Perikatan Nasional’s Nazrul Hakim Nazir, Pejuang’s Annuar Salleh, and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Chee Chee Meng.
