KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad (Utusan Melayu) will resume its operations with a few restructuring and revised business strategies, said group chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh.

According to a report by its Sunday publication Mingguan Malaysia, Fatmi said there may be a reshuffle within the company’s Board of Directors to face “recent challenges”.

“As the chairman, I need to have the support if the management and workers’ union to resume the business operations of this company,” he reportedly said at a closed meeting with Kota Baru Umno members yesterday.

Fatmi is the Kota Baru chief of Umno, a party in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition that was defeated in Wednesday’s polls, after decades of uninterrupted rule.

Umno reportedly owns around half of Utusan’s shares, either through direct control or nominee companies.

“This is because the Board of Directors can only decide on the company’s direction, but the implementation of the company’s principles must be executed by the management and entire workforce.

“I also can’t further disclose if there will be a reshuffle or addition to the current Board of Directors,” he added.

Fatmi said to ensure the continuity of the company, reporting style and the presentation of the contents will need to change.

Utusan Malaysia’s operation will continue but with a different approach so that it stays relevant with the soon-to-be-implemented strategy,” he said.

Apart from Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia, the Utusan group also publishes Kosmo! and a few other magazines under its subsidiary Utusan Karya Sdn Bhd.
