GEORGE TOWN, May 4 — The police seized 92.6kg of syabu (methamphetamine) worth RM5.6 million and RM2.77 million during four raids in Penang and Kedah last Wednesday.
Three men and a woman, together with two foreigners, aged between 25 and 51, were detained in connection with the drug seizure and remanded for a week.
Initial investigations revealed some of the suspects were members of a drug trafficking syndicate which might have smuggled the drug from a neighbouring country via land routes.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said the drug was seized from a boat in Teluk Bahang before it was smuggled to Sumatera, Indonesia.
He said a man was arrested in connection with the drug seizure.
“Subsequently, the police picked up the other suspects at a house in Teluk Bahang and other locations in Bayan Lepas and Langkawi, Kedah,” he told a press conference here today.
Mohmad said the raiding police team also seized RM1.28 million from several bank accounts, eight vehicles worth RM618,500, assorted jewellery worth 28,000 and a watch valued at RM4,000. — Bernama
