BAGAN DATUK, May 3 — The police have been instructed to investigate an alleged death threat made against a Negri Sembilan Election Commission assistant on Nomination Day on April 28, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister and home minister said the matter could not be taken lightly and there would be no compromise as the individual involved was an EC employee who was discharging a duty in upholding a democratic system.

“They (EC employees) must be given the full trust to implement their duties in accordance with the Election Commission Act and the Federal Constitution,” he said to reporters after an Armed Forces social programme in Kampung Sungai Sumun near Hutan Melintang here today.

Ahmad Zahid was commenting on a newspaper report yesterday that a 36-year-old EC employee had been issued a death threat and that a report was made at the Rembau District Police headquarters last Tuesday.

“I advise all party leaders at all levels to inform their party machinery and members and those helping them in their election campaign to abide by the rules of the Election Commission Act,” he said. — Bernama
