PETALING JAYA, May 3 — The Magistrate’s Court here today fined an assistant RM6,000, in default of six months’ jail, for threatening to smash his girlfriend’s face last year.

Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham meted out the fine on S. Logeswaran, 33, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Logeswaran was charged with criminally intimidating K. Punnagai, 30, by threatening to smash her face and leave a permanent scar at Kelana Jaya View Tower, Jalan SS 6/2, Petaling Jaya here, at 1.14 am on November 5, 2017.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine, or both, upon conviction.

In mitigation, lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, representing Logeswaran, who is company manager’s assistant, said it happened following a misunderstanding and no injury was caused, not losses incurred.

“The accused has also started a new life and accepted the fact that he and the girlfriend could not be together. He has a good job and is not a criminal and promised to not repeat the mistake,” he added.
