KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — A witness told the High Court here today that Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) student, cadet officer Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, was taken to his rented house in Bangi on May 31, 2017, a day before he died.

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) student Muhammad Nazrin Mohd Radzuan, 21, said the victim was brought to his house at the De Centrum Apartment at midnight by his old friend Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi Azmal , and another person, Muhammad Azamuddin Mad Sofi, the first and second accused, respectively, in the murder trial.

The 11th prosecution witness said he had just arrived home from a futsal game when he saw Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi, who he had known since secondary school, in his living room with Muhammad Azamuddin and the victim.

“I shook hands with Zuhairi, and asked him why (while referring to Zulfarhan Osman) and he (Zuhairi) said accident’,” said Muhammad Nazrin, adding that Zulfarhan Osman, who was then in a batik shirt and pelikat sarong was lying on a mattress, was injured on the hand.

He said this during examination in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Othman Abdullah during the fifth day trial of six UPNM students who are being charged in Zulfarhan Osman’s death.

Muhammad Nazrin said the four of them talked and during the conversation Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi told him that they would bring Zulfarhan Osman to a clinic the next day for treatment.

Questioned by Othman on Zulfarhan Osman’s condition then, he said the victim was lying down and sleeping most of the time.

Muhammad Nazrin said he also did not talk much to Zulfarhan Osman and also did not know much about the victim except his name and line of study.

The following day, which was June 1, 2017, Muhammad Nazrin said he was resting in his room after the breaking of fast when Muhammad Azamuddin knocked on his door and asked him to go out (of the room) to check on Zulfarhan Osman who was not moving.

“Zuhairi asked me whether I could perform CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), I said I don’t know and he immediately called the ambulance,” he said.

Besides Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi and Muhammad Azamuddin, the other four students are Muhammad Najib Mohd Razi, Muhammad Afif Najmudin Azahat, Mohamad Shobirin Sabri and Abdoul Hakeem Mohd Alim, all aged 22.

They are accused of murdering and conspiring to kill Zulfarhan Osman at 04-10, Jebat hostel block, UPNM, between 4.45am and 5.45am on May 22, 2017.

The charge, under Section 302 and 109 of the Penal Code, provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

They are also accused jointly with 13 other students of physically abusing the victim in order to force him to admit to the theft of a laptop.

The charge, under Section 330 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides an imprisonment for up to seven year and fine, if found guilty.

The hearing before judge Datuk Azman Abdullah continues on May 14. — Bernama
