SEBERANG PERAI, April 25 — Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) will be fielding only two candidates to face DAP’s Lim Guan Eng in the Bagan parliamentary seat and Air Putih state seat.

PCM vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan will be contesting the Bagan parliamentary seat.

The 57-year-old said it is his aim to make it harder for Lim to retain his Bagan seat.

“I am used to losing — that’s normal — but I am contesting against him so that it will not be so easy for him to retain the seat,” Huan said during a press conference today.

He said the state government had failed in its administration for the past 10 years.

He listed local issues such as floods and the lack of low-cost housing that the Penang government had purportedly failed to address.

“This is why PCM is contesting this time. We want to tell the people about these issues that the state had failed to resolve and we will only focus on these issues during our campaign,” he said.

PCM’s R. Manikandan will contest the Air Putih state seat.

“He is a local, born and bred in Air Putih, and his family have lived there for the last five generations,” Huan said.

Manikandan said he will not make any “big” promises to the people of Air Putih.

“We are here to serve the people so we will only resolve the issues that they are facing there,” he said.

He added that Lim was not a resident of Air Putih, unlike him, so he does not have a real understanding of the issues faced by his constituents.

The Bagan parliamentary constituency is a DAP stronghold, and has been since 1986.

Huan will be running against Lim and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Lee Beng Seng for Bagan.

In Air Putih, which has been held by Lim for two terms, there will be a four-cornered fight among Lim, BN’s Tang Heap Seng, Malaysian United Party’s (MUP) Tan Gim Thean and now, Manikandan.
