KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Two suspects, one who allegedly dealt drugs while another engaged in extortion by posing as a policeman, were arrested by Cheras police in Bandar Tun Razak on Tuesday.

A total of RM13,000 worth of drugs were seized from the suspects, both aged 25, along with a fake police uniform and vest.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the imitation uniform had a badge with the rank of Assistant Superintendent and a “Mohd Nur” name tag, and was found together with a pair of police shoes.

“We believe the suspect impersonated a police officer and preyed on victims who committed ‘offences’, who would then be extorted,” he said.

Abdul Ghani said the arrests took place at a condominium on Jalan Tasik Permaisuri, with the raid team nabbing the first suspect in the carpark.

He said a scale, a set of keys and a packet containing approximately 31g of methamphetamine were seized from the suspect.

Upon further questioning, Abdul Ghani said the suspect led police to a unit of the condominium where he claimed he had stashed more drugs.

“We opened the unit with the keys seized earlier and arrested the second suspect who was sleeping in the living room.

“From the condominium unit, we seized another 40 Erimin-5 pills, around 60g of meth stored in several packets, RM800 in cash and a Mercedes-Benz car key,” he said.

Investigators were then led to the silver Mercedes-Benz parked within the building, where they seized the imitation police uniform, vest and shoes, and an additional 22g of meth.

“They told police the drugs were obtained from a person identified as ‘Farid’, who had been supplying them for the last five months and drove a black Myvi,” he said.

Abdul Ghani denied the Mercedes-Benz was stolen, saying the owner was a friend of the suspect who had recently died.

He said both suspects’ urine tests came back positive for methamphetamine.

A background check on both suspects found they had no prior criminal records.
