PAGOH, April 20 ― Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) officially announced president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last night as its candidate for the Pagoh parliamentary seat and Gambir state seat.
PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced this at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) event in Kampung Sri Tanjung in Panchor-Gerisek here.
Muhyiddin, who is a former deputy prime minister and former Johor mentri besar, will spearhead PPBM and also PH’s campaign in Johor.
The 70-year-old incumbent Pagoh MP, who is also Johor PH chief, was already expected to contest both federal and state seats here.
Thousands attended the event in which senior PH leaders such as Liew Chin Tong, Nurul Izzah Anwar and Rafizi Ramli also put in appearances.
Dr Mahathir later announced all the candidates for the parliamentary and state seats his party will contest here.
For federal seats, PPBM will field party secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh (Sri Gading), Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), Dr Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam), Nasir Hashim (Mersing), Norjepri Mohamed Jelani (Tenggara), Azlinda Abd Latif (Kota Tinggi), Norliza Ngadiman (Pengerang), Karmaine Sardini (Pontian) and Dr Md Farid Md Rafik (Tanjung Piai).
For state seats, PPBM state secretary Datuk Osman Sapian will contest the urban Kempas state seat. He was formerly the Kempas assemblyman until 2013 when he was dropped and later quit Umno for PPBM.
He will be joined by Dr Sahrudin Jamal (Bukit Kepong), Pizi Jihat (Bukit Pasir), Jawahir Hussein (Panti), Mazlan Bujang (Puteri Wangsa), Datuk Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh (Permas), Mohd Izhar Ahmad (Larkin), Tosrin Javanthi (Bukit Permai), Najwa Halimah Abdul Alim (Benut), Norsamsu Mohd Yusof (Buloh Kasap), Mohd Solihan Badri (Tenang), Mohd Ajib Omar (Sei Medan), Zais Mohd Akil (Semarang), Ferdaus Kayau (Parit Raja), Ahmad Ahem (Machap), Noorlihan Ariffin (Kahang) and Norul Haszarul Abu Samah (Endau).
The PPBM candidates’ announcement had been postponed twice this week.
PPBM is leading the PH vanguard in the state, and has been allocated the lion’s share of federal and state seats to contest the general election.
The Election Commission announced May 9 as polling day for GE14. Nomination will be on April 28, while early voting is slated for May 5.
