KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 ― The High Court postponed today hearing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) judicial review against its suspension to tomorrow.
The case was scheduled to begin in open court this morning but lawyer for PPBM Rosli Dahan told reporters that Shamsul Bolhassan, lawyer for the Registrar of Societies (RoS), which is being sued, had applied for a postponement as he had only just received the application documents and needed time to go through them.
Shamsul confirmed the matter when approached and said judge Datin Azizah Nawawi rescheduled hearing for 3pm tomorrow.
PPBM had filed an application for a judicial review last Friday against the RoS’ move to suspend the Opposition party for a month starting April 5.
In its suspension notice, the RoS said PPBM had violated Section 14(5) of the Societies Act 1966 for failing to submit information and documents pertaining to the minutes of branch meetings, divisions and centres, as well as party financial statements within the required time frame.
In its judicial review application, PPBM is seeking to overturn the RoS’ suspension order as well as compel the latter to explain which provisions of the law it had violated.
