KOTA KINABALU, April 18 — A politician filed for judicial review at the High Court here yesterday to compel the Election Commission (EC) to block Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal from participating in local polls, including the 14th general election.
Datuk Ainal Fattah filed an ex-parte application through Nurul Rafeeqa Marcel Advocates via e-filling yesterday, naming the EC and Shafie as the first and second respondents respectively.
Shafie is president of Parti Warisan Sabah, a Sabah-based Opposition party that he set up after leaving Umno.
The former federal minister is the incumbent Semporna MP and is likely to stand there again on May 9.
He led Barisan Nasional to win the Semporna parliamentary seat and its three state seats of Senallang, Bugaya and Sulabayan in the previous general election.
Ainal Fattah is a Sabah-based Umno politician.
