PETALING JAYA, Feb 7 — A 61-year-old man previously convicted of rape and robbery has been arrested by police on suspicion of molesting a 10-year-old girl inside a car in Klang last Sunday.

South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the suspect, a lorry driver nicknamed “Rock Kapak”, is under remand for seven days until February 12 after he was arrested at a food stall on Jalan Pelabuhan Utara, Port Klang at around 12.05am yesterday.

“The suspect had earlier invited the father for a drink along with the victim and the victim's eight-year-old sibling at a nearby flat after hanging out at a playground in Taman Pendamar, Klang,” the senior policeman told reporters today.

He related that the suspect befriended the child’s 36-year-old father, a mechanic, about a week ago.

According to the policeman, the suspect told her father to return with his younger daughter first and offered to take the older girl home at about 5.30pm after the outing.

Half an hour later, the father received a phone call from his mother who said the 10-year-old girl had complained that the suspect had given her his handphone to view while he groped her during the car ride home.

The father subsequently lodged a police report on Monday.

The policeman said the suspect confessed to molesting the child in the car when questioned by investigators during his arrest.

Initial investigations showed the suspect was married with four children but their whereabouts were not known to him.

Police said the suspect was released from prison in 2005.
