KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — Leaders with integrity make the proper decisions because these are right and not only because it is expected of them, said Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.

He said this while delivering the keynote address at the Malaysia Leadership Succession Summit today.

The summit was organised by Universiti Teknologi Mara and was opened by Deputy Higher Learning Minister Datuk  Mary Yap.

“Integrity is about doing the right thing while no one is watching,” added Wahid.

He also said leaders who demonstrate integrity, honesty, and humility will develop reputations that precede them.

The former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department added that that as a “rule of thumb”, he filled one in four senior posts with outsiders.

He also recommended that chief executives be limited to terms of no more than 10 years to prevent complacency from setting in.
