HULU SELANGOR, Feb 5 — Bukit Aman today launched the Highway Investigation Unit (USLR), a pilot project under the Federal Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department to enhance the department’s capabilities.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the unit comprises 63 personnel tasked with conducting investigations for minor accidents along the North-South Expressway (NSE).

“The concept of the unit is that traffic policemen will be equipped with e-IP or Electronic Investigations Paper.

“The e-IP allows investigators to immediately provide the complainant with the case verdict as soon as investigations completed,” he said at the Ulu Bernam R&R Stop today after flagging off the 12th Ops Selamat campaign.

Mohamad Fuzi said the USLR will also take on the role of first response investigators for fatal accidents while awaiting the arrival of the respective district investigations officers.

“We are expanding the USLR throughout the Peninsula at the moment and will expand it to Sabah and Sarawak in the future,” he said.

During the trial stage that was implemented in September 2016, a total of 812 cases have been investigated with more than 90 percent positive feedback on USLR.

Mohamad Fuzi said the unit is divided into three zones namely north, central and south.

“The north zone will investigate cases from Perlis to Ipoh, the central zone covers Ipoh to Seremban and the south zone covers Seremban to Johor,” he said.
