IPOH, Jan 18 — Police raided a drug lab and seized various types of drugs following the arrest of eight people including a Sri Lankan man.

State police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the syndicate has been active for the last two months.

He said among the eight arrested was a woman and all suspects were aged between 24 and 47-years-old.

Hasnan said the raids was a joint operation between Bukit Aman’s Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) and the state narcotics department.

“The drug lab was operating on the first floor of a shop selling fashion accessories at Jelapang.

“Aside from drug paraphernalia, police seized heroin, ganja and caffeine from the drug lab and also from one of the suspect’s car,” he said.

Hasnan said police arrested five people in Ipoh while another raid at a coffee shop at Damansara, Selangor, resulted in the arrest of three other syndicate members.

All seven local suspects had previous criminal records for drugs and other crimes.

The seized drugs had a street value of RM619,412.

“All the suspects have been remanded for six days until January 23 to be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” said Hasnan.
