KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — Honda Malaysia is recalling over 49,000 of its Odyssey multi-purpose vehicles and Accord saloons due to possibly defective battery sensors and door mirror assembly.

Of the number recalled, the firm said 20,233 were Accords that will need the circuit boards for their battery sensors examined for possible inaccuracies.

“This may cause electrical short circuit of the sensor, and possibilities of smoke coming from the hood or, in the worst case, a fire,” it said in a statement reproduced by the news portal.

The remainder of the recall cover 27,912 units of Accord and 971 units of Odyssey that may have a defective part in their door mirror assembly, which could cause it to retract on its own while the vehicle is in motion.

The firm assured customers that it has sufficient replacement parts to address the defects.

Honda said it was strongly recommending that affected customers send in their vehicles for inspection, particularly those who may have the faulty battery sensor.

Customers may confirm if their vehicles are among those affected by the recall at Honda’s website for recalls.

Honda has been affected by a raft of recalls both in Malaysia and elsewhere in the world.

The firm remains mired in the Takata airbag controversy that forced the Japanese carmaker to recall 5.5 million cars in the US alone so far and 7 millions elsewhere in the world.
