JOHOR BARU, June 7 — It was the number of injuries inflicted on his son that prompted Zulkarnain Idros to lodge a police report yesterday over the tragic torture-cum-murder of naval cadet officer Zulfarhan Osman.

Zulkarnain lodged the report at the Bukit Indah police station at 10.25am. It was later forwarded to the Datuk Abu Bakar Baginda community police station in Sepang, Selangor, for further investigation.

Zulkarnain, accompanied by several family members, cited his unhappiness over events which led to his son’s death as being the catalyst for his decision.

In his report, sighted by Malay Mail, the 53-year-old taxi driver said he was horrified at the magnitude of the wounds inflicted on his son that led to his death, after he was told by the authorities to identify the remains at the Serdang Hospital on Friday.

Zulkarnain believed the wounds sustained by Zulfarhan were brought about by torture, and demanded a detailed investigation by police on the events that led to the death.

Zulfarhan, 21, died on Thursday with bruises and scaldings on his entire body.

It was learnt that the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) third-year undergraduate had suffered massive body injuries inflicted by a group of fellow cadet officers, which included the use of a steam iron, in their attempt to force a confession on the alleged theft of a laptop.

Police have remanded 36 students from the university and Universiti Tenaga Nasional to assist in investigations.

Contacted by Malay Mail, Zulkarnain said he wanted the police to thoroughly investigate the events leading to Zulfarhan's death.

“My family and I are not satisfied and are still in the dark regarding what my late son went through prior to his death,” he said.

Zulkarnain said he would also make a trip to his son’s campus this week to collect his personal belongings and settle other matters.

“I hope to go up to Kuala Lumpur on Friday as I was told there were some pending issues related to my late son, including his pension matters,” he said.
