KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 ― The police have arrested five brothers yesterday in connection with the brutal murder of a 26-year-old transgender in Kuantan.

According to The Star Online, the brothers, aged between 19 and 30, were picked up at their homes during the afternoon.

The article quoted a police source as saying that more individuals are expected to be hauled up in connection with the murder of Sameera Krishnan.

The five suspects were subsequently taken to the Kuantan district police headquarters to assist in investigations.

The Kuantan magistrate's court has granted a seven-day remand order for the five today.

The five brothers were said to have criminal records in the past.

Sameera, who worked at a flower shop in Kuantan, was found with a gunshot wound and with her body mutilated in the early hours of Feb 23.

She had four fingers on her right hand severed, had severe head injuries and was shot in posterior.

Sameera was the main witness in her own kidnapping case, for which two men were charged and were set to face the court from March 20 to March 23.

She was believed to be abused and violated after being kidnapped at her Klang apartment in February 2015, but was rescued by police eventually when her captors met with a minor accident with another car at the Sungai Rasau toll.
