KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — The Bumiputera Manufacturers and Services Industry Association of Malaysia (PPIPBM) aims to rake in RM10 million in export revenue annually from 150 non-food companies.

Its Deputy President, Rosli Abd Shukor, said the revenue comprised 20 per cent from companies generated through exports.

“Initially, we will start at RM10 million and it (export revenue) can be increased progressively throughout the years,” he said.

Rosli said this to Bernama after conducting a ‘pocket talk’ hand-holding programme, Best Exporters Programme (BEP), here today.

The programme is organised by PPIPBM together with the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju), SME Bank, Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Bhd and Malaysia External Trade Development Corp.

Rosli said the association would like to cultivate companies, which consisted about 150 companies out of 300 companies involved in the non-food sector to be export-ready.

BEP is a programme that allocates RM200,000 grant to selected Bumiputera companies to help them penetrate export market within a three-year span.

“The objective of the BEP is to guide and harness export-ready Bumiputera companies’ potential through its manufacturing/technical, financial, human capital, export requirements, marketing as well as standards and regulations module.

“Even though the economic climate is challenging, the companies need to propel themselves outside the Malaysian market to leverage on foreign exchange gains,” he said.

Teraju is a unit in the Prime Minister’s Department to drive economic progress and encourages participation from Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

PPIPBM is a facilitator and coordinator to entrepreneurs by providing advisory services and business information to its members.

The association, since its establishment in 1987, has now 1,500 member companies and 2,000 associated members including affiliate members such as Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd, Habib Jewels Sdn Bhd and Ramly Group. — Bernama
