KOTA KINABALU, Feb 24 — The recruitment of about 250 police inspectors this year will give priority to candidates with degrees in professional fields including forensic science.
Bukit Aman Management director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the move was in line with the need to equip the country’s police officers with various backgrounds and suitable skills according to current policing.
“The staff strength of police is almost full at about 127,000. This year we will only recruit 1,780 people including 250 police inspectors. The remaining recruits are for lower ranking personnel.
“For officers ranked inspector this year, we will give attention to those with degrees in law, forensic science, information technology, accounting and architectural engineering,” he said after attending a passing out parade of the Basic Constable Policing Training Series 1/2016 at Sabah police headquarters here today.
The ceremony for 274 trainees who completed the course, was also attended by Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din.
Zulkifli said if more police officers have professional qualifications such as architectural engineering, it would ensure buildings were constructed with security features which could reduce criminal activities.
According to Zulkifli, police needed to have a holistic policy including in the aspects of officer recruitment to ensure the tasks of the agency in crime prevention is continuously supported by the latest infrastructure.
“We could see crimes getting more sophisticated and therefore we need more officers with forensic science qualification. We have forensic laboratory and officers with chemistry, physics and other qualifications, but we need more for continuity,” he said. — Bernama
