PETALING JAYA, Dec 21 — Former top cop Tan Sri Musa Hassan today gave firebrand blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin two weeks to retract and apologise for his articles alleging that the former had “fixed” Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s twin sodomy charges.
The former inspector-general of police (IGP) said the allegations in the two articles were completely false and defamatory, and threatened legal action against the fugitive editor of Malaysia Today portal if he fails to comply with the demand.
“The articles have more libel than facts… he called me the running dog of Dr Mahathir together with Gani Patail,” said Musa, referring to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Pattail.
“This allegation is without any trace of principles. It is factless. The case was already tried by the courts and the defence did not once challenge facts to suggest that it was fixed [by me].
“No government servant is a running dog of any politicians,” he added.
Raja Petra had published two articles on his site within the last six days accusing Musa and Gani of fixing the sodomy charges against de facto Opposition Leader Anwar, allegedly under the instructions of Dr Mahathir.
Raja Petra is believed to currently reside in the United Kingdom.
Musa denied the allegation and said police action against Anwar was impartial.
“We only do our job. We help the government of the day and we do not do jobs for politicians.
“To suggest that is to intentionally degrade civil servants,” Musa said.
He also dismissed Raja Petra’s claim that Dr Mahathir was behind both sodomy charges.
“Mahathir had no access to police work”.
Musa said he is willing to forgive Raja Petra if the blogger retracts all the articles implicating him and apologises.
Raja Petra went into self-exile a few years ago ostensibly to avoid prosecution over articles deemed seditious and defamatory.
Musa did not explain if he would initiate legal action overseas or in Malaysia, and could not be reached for clarification.
