PASIR SALAK, Nov 20 — The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry will carry out a study on the problems faced by farmers who are affected by floods in areas around Bagan Datoh.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said the ministry officers would be instructed to make a detailed damage assessment of cash crops before providing the necessary assistance to the affected farmers.
He said there were several forms of assistance that could be channelled to the farmers involved, including through the Flood Disaster Fund and the Replanting Scheme.
“In the past, if severe flooding occurred, we would give (assistance) based on the damage or losses incurred. However, in the case of flash floods, we will provide assistance according to the (affected farmers) needs,” he said.
Tajuddin, who is also Pasir Salak Member of Parliament, said this to reporters at the presentation ceremony of the ownership grants involving 103.6 hectares of land to 132 applicants under the Kampung Air Kuning Organised Village Plan, Kampung Gajah sub-district, here today. — Bernama
