KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 — Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has issued a ‘notice to remedy’ to Scomi Transit Projects Sdn Bhd (Scomi) for failing to deliver 10 sets of new monorail trains by Dec 31, 2015.
Scomi had not only failed to comply with the Stage Gate 2 of the second supplement contract to deliver the trains but also did not submit any mitigation plan to remedy the delay as requested by Prasarana on Jan 4, 2016.
The Stage Gate 2 of the contract entailed Scomi delivering 10 sets of new four-car monorail trains, including seven sets for revenue service, it said in a statement.
Under the notice, Scomi is given 60 days from today to comply, failing which, Prasarana may terminate the principal contract, the supplemental agreement and the second supplemental contract.
Under the principal contract, signed between Prasarana and Scomi in 2011, Scomi was contracted to deliver 12 sets of new four-car monorail trains, construction of a new depot and installation of a new signalling system.
Scomi was also required to upgrade the Kuala Lumpur monorail stations, including the electrical and mechanical systems for RM494 million.
To date, only six sets of new four-car monorail trains have been delivered, five of which were currently in revenue service, it said.
The upgrading works on the monorail stations and other related systems are still in progress pending the full delivery of the remaining four-car monorail trains, said Prasarana.
On March 1, 2016, Scomi had obtained an ex-parte injunction to restrain Prasarana, the asset owner and operator of the country’s two LRT networks and the Kuala Lumpur Monorail, from terminating the RM494 million Kuala Lumpur Monorail Fleet Expansion Project. — Bernama
